importing a website created in Dreamweaver into Expression Web

I just got Expression Web and am being totally challenged by it. I'm going to have someone design a website for me but she uses Dreamweaver. She has said that I should be able to import the site she creates into Expression Web so that I can make changes to it and control the content, but I can't figure out how. I'd also like to be able to import the websites I've created in QuarkXpress into Expression Web as well. I'm hoping this is a fairly simple command; can anyone either explain how or give me a resource for figuring it out?

    thanks,

    Jackie

You can use Expresssion to edit and maintain Dreamweaver created sites but Expression only understand Dreamweaver 4 templates not those of later versions.

There is no need to "import" any site into Expression Web simply point it to the location of your local copy of your Quark site. If you do not have a local copy then create a new empty website then connect to your web host via FTP and publish it down.

Note, I do not know what sort of websites Quark creates and many desktop publishing programs do not create standards based sites so the results may not be compatible with curent coding practices. Whatever you do I would recommend that you archive a copy of its current state before you begin any editing.

    Thanks, Cheryl.

I figured that since I knew Quark, and I was also able to create simple sites in Publisher, learning Expression Web would be easy -- even though I am not by any means a designer. Sigh. It's not. I'll give this a try -- and will probably be back with more questions.

    Again, thanks.

There is a mantra for folks who are creating web pages with a print background. That mantra is "the web is not print."

While color theory and some other print concepts will translate the mediums are very different which means there are many things that do not translate well starting with points and absolute positioning. With print on paper you have pretty much absolute control over how the page looks but with the web there are many things that the designer has no control over starting with the canvas. Your visitor could be using any of a dozen or more operating system platforms, browser and connection speeds Not to mention that very fiew computer monitors are color calibrated correctly. <g>
